I have major issues with how my bank does credits and debits, including moving items to different da

I talked to a management level person at my bank. She did not have answers. She also stated that banking is the biggest scam going in the world today. Is there an honest bank? Are credit unions or savings an loans any better/

Not sure what kind of scam banks are, tho fees and interest are profitable.

As far as moving things around, their dates will always be the same or later than your days. This is because they record a check, for example, when it gets to them, not when you wrote it or sent it.

I never try to balance my checkbook. I just look things over at every statement. If something doesn't jump out at me as wrong, I assume everything is %26quot;close enough.%26quot; Once or twice a year some deal may come up that makes me wonder how much money I actually have in the bank. Normally the need to know is not urgent and I can let my bank activity settle down for a week to have a good idea how much is there -- two weeks to feel sure of the numbers. The bank does not know when I spend money -- they just know when they get the bills (checks or debit card purchases).

Explore around for a bank that will give you answers. When you fell satisfied, move your account over to them.

I agree with you, especially in New York. The banking laws out there are such a rip-off. They keep a deposit for five days even if it's from the same bank! They find so many ways to hold on to your money before you have access to it. There were so many outrageous fees and rules and regulations that were anti-customer. California seems to be a little better though, but it's still ridiculous.

I work in a Credit Union and I see no difference. Actually the fees are higher, you have to pay to be a member, and the interest rates may not be any better. Now this is only in my experience, it may not be that way with a CU's. We also post on a same day schedule. Deposits post when you make them, but checks could clear anytime all day long.

I would seriously consider moving my money to a place where the staff is a little more professional. It doesn't give a customer confidence to hear the manager bashing the company or industry. I can't defend or justify the fees or other actions in my credit union, that's why I'm seeking other employment. But I don't broadcast that information to my customers. It's completely unprofessional.

At the end of the day they are all out to make a buck. That's the nature of the beast. Unless you keep your money under a mattress. WAMU sounds like it might be a good bank, but then if you don't have one in your area, there might be ATM charges or things like that. Good luck finding one that you're happy with.

All banks are businesses, and the purpose of a business is to make money. It sounds like in your case, the money they are making/taking is yours. I have found that small local banks offer the best services. While still needing to make money, they are competing for your business with huge corporate level banks and are more inclined to try to win you over by providing great customer service and percs.

Banks, especially posting priority is a hard thing to understand. I used to work for Bank of America and Wachovia and it was very hard to get through to customers. Usually, a bank posts credits before debits, and then debits usually go from highest to lowest. Most people think that this is a scam to collect more fees from customers then they should really be charged but the bank logic on this is something I can understand as well. They state that the reason they pay the highest item first is because that is usually the purchase with the most importance (mortgage, car payment, insurance payment.) I would have to agree with them on that. I would much rather have my car payment go through and then maybe get declined or get a fee on my grocery store purchase. Credit unions are good because they are much smaller, a lot of times they are most customer focused, but then you don't have some luxuries like 24 hour customer service, not a whole lot of ATMs, things like that. It's really a choice to make, customer service or convience. Hope it helps.

I've been with a credit union for years. They are always friendly and cooperative and they listen to their customers. I highly recommend it.
